With ease and comfort, Scout entered the star first. After all, it was his home. Behind Scout, the girls entered, in complete awe of the majesty around them. They had entered a gateway, an entry to the unknown. Human words could not describe the beauty surrounding them. Some things were reminiscent of the life they had known, but still not the same. Water cascaded from nowhere, poured over waterfalls and pooled into sparkling blue ponds. Flowers bloomed as tall as trees in hues of colors that were familiar, but like none they had ever witnessed. Jessica touched one of the flowers and her hand went through the plant and came out the other side. The girls giggled. Everything appeared to have form, but nothing did. âIs any of this real Jessica, or is it a dream?â
âIâm not sure, but itâs the most beautiful place Iâve ever seen. Iâve never seen a place like this, even in my dreams.â Everything was so vibrant and fluid. Nothing was solidânot even their own bodies. There was no time or space, everything just simply was. They peered into a pool of water, and the whole universe appeared before them, providing their own private window to the world. Gentle chimes rang in the distance; their serene melody further descended the harmony and tranquility that was present in this beautiful place. The girls werenât sure if this was heaven or a portal to heaven; either way, neither of them wanted ever to leave. Peoplewere all around them, peacefully going about their way. Some people were young, like them; others were old. It seemed as though every nationality on earth was represented, and most of them, the girls had only encountered in history books. When people moved, trails of light flowed behind them. Some were brighter than others, and they were all different colors. Some were pink, others were blue; a few were even gold. Jessica and Edie played in the mirrored water and watched a small group of people approach. As they grew closer, Jessica realized one of the people was Pearlâs husband, Cecil Washington. âMr. Cecil!â Jessica ran to greet her long lost friend. âOh, Mr. Cecil weâve missed you so much.â
Cecil Washington embraced his beloved little friend and with the wisdom of a father, he gazed into her eyes. âHoney child,
Iâve missed you too. But you listen real close now. Iâve got something very important to tell you. You ainât supposed to be here now, Jessica. Itâs simply not your time.â
